Cape May Lighthouse
Located in Cape May Point State Park, the
Lighthouse was built in 1859. The Oil House at the base contains a
Visitors' Center, Museum and Gift Shop. Climb the 199 steps to the top
for a spectacular view of the Cape. Open daily in season. Some night events are
scheduled by MAC. See the front desk or look into This Week in Cape May
Guide Book. A great bike ride from the Angel! (Approximate distance 5
miles round-trip.) Ask about availability of bikes and directions at the
front desk.
Sunset Beach
Cape May Diamonds can be found along Sunset Beach just west of Cape
May Point. A great bike ride and a spectacular place to watch the
sunset, Sunset Beach has a couple of nifty gift shops and an outdoor
grill. (Hours of operation vary.) View the concrete ship (ask Sharon)
just off-shore.
Bird Observatory
South Jersey is one of the most important
birding areas in the country. The Cape Bird Observatory is located in
Cape May Point just across from Lily Lake, and the Nature Conservancy
maintains an extensive wetlands migratory area just off Sunset
Boulevard. The Audubon Society conducts birding weekends during spring
and fall. For additional information, the Observatory can be reached at
884-2736. The Observatory also maintains a hotline at 884-2626.
Cape May County Zoo
One of the Cape's best kept secrets is
fast becoming one of the area's most popular tourist attractions.
Located just 11 miles north of town just off the Garden State Parkway,
the Zoo is open daily, year round. Ask at the Front Desk for directions.
Cape May Historical Museum
Located across from the zoo on Rt. 9, the
museum houses exhibits and artifacts from the county's pre-Revolutionary
war history.
Cold Spring Village
An open air living history museum
portraying a South Jersey farming village of the 1850s, Cold Spring
Village features over 20 restored historic buildings on a 22-acre wooded
site. Costumed craftspeople demonstrate the trades and lifestyles of a
bygone era. Located on Rt. 9, approximately 3 miles north of Cape, the
Village hosts a variety of weekend events throughout the summer.
